Take Action

We’re very concerned about the increasing private equity and corporate ownership of US veterinary practices. The trend of consolidation will only continue if left unchecked and will have increasingly negative effects for US pet owners and their beloved pets. In the era of large corporate veterinary care, the regulatory oversight and consumer protections of this industry are woefully deficient and must be strengthened to foster qualtity of care and greater practice liability for when things go wrong.

If you’re as worried about the increasing private equity and corporate ownership of US veterinary practices as we are, there are several ways to take action – your pets’ lives may depend on it.

The first step is to understand your local veterinary care options - who is corporately or PE owned and who is independent. Know where to go both for routine care and in the case of a major emergency. Vote with your feet, and while that doesn’t always have to mean avoiding the corporately owned vet (depending on geography you may not even have any choice), know that corporately owned practices may not always act in your interest.
